Water is life.
Water is a precious resource. It is essential for us too – whether it is potable for preparing dough or processing water for washing the potatoes. Did you know, for example, that just for our chips production we need six Olympic-sized pools full of water in a month? It is much too precious to let it just go down the drain.
This is another area where we consistently check our use and employ the most modern technology. From the water used for potato washing, we filter out useful elements like starch and potato peels. So we regain the starch as raw material for our production and the potato peels are reused in a bio-gas facility.
The filtrated water is reused and utilized for the prewash of our potatoes. If we need additional processing water we take it out of our own well.

Big plus: green electricity
Being economical with energy is also good for resources. Another even more important aspect is that it reduces CO2 Emissions. This is why we only use eco-electricity at our factories in Neunburg and Hankensbuettel as well as at our headquarters in Neu-Isenburg.
Our energy management system carefully documents and analyses the energy use in our factories in order to continuously improve its use.
If we can find a new way to save energy then we use it. Here‘s a clever example: We use the waste heat generated by our systems to heat our buildings and water.

No garbage is best
Less garbage is good. But no garbage is even better! That‘s why garbage is a „lost resource“ for us and we do everything we can to avoid, reuse or recycle it. This applies to our primary resources as well as packaging materials.
Here‘s an example: We wash and peel tons of potatoes daily while making our chips . The processing water contains a lot of peels and starch at the end of this process- much too good to be thrown away! Both „waste products“ can be reused – in a bio-gas facility, as animal feed or as a glue base for our cardboard suppliers.
We continuously improve our packaging so that the foils are thinner without harming the safety of the contents. We use recycled material for our cardboard.
At the end of the day, we do things at our factories just the way you would do them at home too: If there‘s no other use for it, we separate our material and dispose of it responsibly.

Taking new roads
Before our snacks reach your home they have already put quite a few kilometers behind them: mostly by truck, train or ship. Transportation also creates CO2 emissions. That‘s why we are continuously on the lookout for new ways to reduce these emissions and unburden the environment.
We plan our transport very carefully. Starting with the development of our packaging, we look at how we can improve the capacity and the load of our vehicles. In collaboration with our trading partners we also focus on optimal capacity of our vehicles to increase the efficiency of transport and to reduce CO2 emissions.
Modern technology is important throughout our complete fleet. New motors produce less toxic substances and use less resources.
So you can be sure: If there are new ways to unburden our environment, we will take them.
